Teaching Philosophy
There's nothing better than watching someone's worldview expand in real time. I live for classroom moments when students are fully engaged, debating ideas, and challenging their assumptions. Accordingly, my pedagogy primarily centers on helping students become critical and empathetic thinkers who can tackle complex problems with nuance. I design courses through an intersectional feminist lens, giving students the analytical tools to wrestle with big ideas about power and identity, and to ultimately understand their global ramifications. As an instructor, I bring organization, flexibility, encouragement, and passion to every class, plus a commitment to constantly innovate my own teaching. My teaching has earned recognition through consistently high evaluations and two prestigious awards: the 2024 University of Kentucky Outstanding Teacher Award and the 2024 College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. The classroom is a space where ideas come alive, and I view myself as a guiding force in helping shape how students engage critically with the world around them as emerging scholars, activists, and professionals.
